Overview

Sophie was admitted to practice in 2018 and called to the Bar in 2023. She accepts briefs in all areas of law, and has a particular interest in intellectual property, commercial law, private international law, employment and criminal matters.

Before coming to the Bar, Sophie practised as a solicitor at Herbert Smith Freehills in the Intellectual Property Disputes team.  She also has experience in the Class Actions and Employment teams, and worked on a range of matters including patent and trade mark proceedings, commercial advices for various consumer goods and energy/resources clients, shareholder and product liability class actions, and breach of fiduciary duties matters in the Supreme Court of New South Wales and the Federal Court of Australia.

Sophie has also practised in criminal matters in the Local Court and District Court through the Shopfront Youth Legal Centre.

Sophie was Tipstaff to the Honourable Justice Stevenson in the New South Wales Supreme Court. She was also awarded the Peter Nygh Hague Conference Internship by The Australian Institute of International Affairs and the Australian Branch of the International Law Association, which led to her working in The Hague in 2019 at The Hague Conference on Private International Law. During that time, Sophie worked in the Judgments Project team towards the Convention of 2 July 2019 on the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Judgments in Civil or Commercial Matters.

Sophie holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Laws (Hons I) from the Australian National University.
